A VERY KYLIE KRISTMAS

I may not drink all of the Kardashian Kool-Aid, but of three things I am sure. Firstly, I love any opportunity for alliteration. Secondly, Kim K is the queen of selfies. Lastly, and perhaps most relevant of all, Kylie knows how to make a good liquid lipstick.

Between my sisters and I, we've accumulated quite the supply of Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits over the past several months. Our growing collection currently includes my holy grail shades Exposed, Koko, and Khlo$, along with 22, Kristen, Candy K, Dolce K, Reign and Heir. But after trying a friend's Kourt K (thanks, Jojo!) recently, I knew I needed to add the shade to my liquid lip options. What the lipstick lacked in even pigmentation, the liner made up for with its creamy, long-lasting application, and together the duo was too good for me to pass up.

Conveniently, Kylie launched her Holiday Collection on the same day I chose to place my order, so I felt obligated to snag some things in the limited edition packaging. I had to, right?

On the hunt for the next great dark lip, I selected Vixen and checked out. Moments later - still induced in a retail-therapy-related high - I returned to the site and picked up Merry to give as a present in an upcoming gift exchange. Reds don't look great on me, but I couldn't resist the thought of a classic Christmas shade in the festive silvery packaging. As I finished up my purchases, my sister informed me that she, too, had logged on and purchased the holiday Mini Mattes Lip Kit bundle for us to share. A Christmas (Kristmas?) miracle!

Swatched from top to bottom: Merry, Vixen, and Kourt K.

While they might seem fairly similar when swatched, Kourt K and Vixen have completely different undertones, with Kourt K leaning more bluish-purple and Vixen far more red. Like I said earlier, a bright red terrifies me, so having Vixen allows me to play up those tones without feeling like a clown.

The Mini Mattes liquid lip bundle is another seriously adorable option - especially if you aren't sure what shades suit you best, since there's a variety of nudes, statements, cool tones and warm tones. The kit includes minis of Moon, Ginger, Kristen, Angel, Love Bite and Vixen.

Here's a size comparison of the Mini Mattes Vixen and the full-sized version!

At the end of the day, the Kylie Lip Kits are not the best liquid lipsticks on the market. I personally love the ones by LASplash and Revlon for cheaper and equally effective alternatives, and the liquid lips by Smashbox and Huda Beauty have been getting rave reviews. Nevertheless, if you're a sucker for something a bit more novelty, the Kylie ones do a good job - just be sure to exfoliate and moisturize beforehand!
