A WORKING GIRL'S ON-THE-JOB OOTD

July 18, 2017

For those of you haven't seen my myriad posts to social media about this—I have a job! I work full-time with Health Magazine and Health.com, doing everything from beauty posts to tutorial videos to managing social media. So far so great, and I honestly couldn't be happier with my first real post-grad position.

The benefit of working for a creative company is that the dress code is a little more relaxed. I still try to look as business professional as I can, but there's plenty of room to play with color, pattern and accessories, so I try to make the most of it and find that perfect balance between fitting the mold and standing out. This is one of my favorite outfits that I've worn so far, and believe it or not, I got the main pieces from trusty work brand Banana Republic. Shout out to my mom for taking these photos for me after work (#fancy #glamorous).

This sleeveless blouse is without a doubt the best thing in my entire work wardrobe (and it's on sale, now!). It's simple enough that I can pair it with a variety of patterned or neutral pants and skirts, but the gorgeous embellishments manage to make it stand out regardless of its role as a workwear basic. As a larger-chested girl, I rarely buy button-up tops due to the dreaded pulling that's bound to happen around the cleavage area, but this top holds it's own, and I couldn't be happier.

To dress up the blouse, I went with this amazing pinstriped pencil skirt, plucked from a lonely sale rack at my local Banana. Unfortunately, this means that the piece is no longer online, but I've found cute and similar options here, here and here. I'm definitely not the first girl with a job to praise pinstripes, but they really are incredible for making any look polished. I love how this skirt plays on the classic pinstripes by simultaneously having a denim look, which manages to make a business-ready pencil skirt feel a touch more casual. I've worn this outfit to drinks after work and only felt a little bit overdressed, which I kinda loved, TBH.

You guys already know I'm obsessed with my Longchamp Le Pliage Neo tote, so I won't go into detail. On my feet, I'm wearing an old pair of go-to work heels by Vince Camuto. The best part about these is the super small, angular heel, which is both comfy to walk in and a bit more interesting than the classic block heel, thanks to its upside-down triangle shape. The most similar pair VC carries right now are the Eldora sandals, but other cute pairs that feature the same unique heel include the Elettra, the Eadon, and the Elishan (BRB, adding the Eadon sandals to my cart as we speak).

I hope you guys enjoyed this workplace OOTD, and that it gave you some inspiration for any upcoming interviews/internships/jobs in your future. More business-appropriate looks coming soon, as the only two places I'll be this summer are the office and the beach!
