As a beauty writer, I do quite a bit of my "research" — AKA masking and playing with makeup — from home. As a result of this, my daily style and makeup have slightly shifted. I've definitely found myself reaching for more no-makeup makeup products and applying less in general (should I update my no-makeup makeup faves in a new post? LMK), and I've got absolutely zero interest in wearing anything uncomfortable around the house. Your girl loves to dress up when she's out and about, but at home I'm all about that perfect intersection of style and coziness.
Some days, a breezy dress or slouchy joggers does the trick for that perfect comfortable look, but other days I go full force, and style my pajamas as part of my looks. Sound strange? The pajama trend has actually been on the rise for quite some time now, and luxury and fast fashion brands alike have been pumping out pieces with classic PJ-inspired elements like soft satin, piping at the seams, loose silhouettes and matching sets.
Since the trend is really blowing up, lots of brands are listing these sleepwear-esque pieces at unreasonably high prices. My solution? Buy fair-priced, actual pajamas, and style them as if they were pajama-inspired, not the real thing. Who would know? When accessorized the right way, these pieces look good and feel great, so it's a win-win overall.
My first pair of "fancy" sleepwear was this matching satin sleep pant and cami tank top from Victoria's Secret in the Black Luxe Palm print. As someone who normally sleeps in a Georgetown tee and whatever bottoms I can find, the set appealed to me when I started looking to move to a new apartment in NYC. I had graduated from dorm life to real-world apartments, so shouldn't my sleeping attire upgrade a little, too?

One of the features of this set I particularly like is the cami's super-high neckline. As someone with a larger chest (I'm a 34E), wearing little tanks to bed can sometimes leave me a little exposed, but with this particular top, I'm totally covered without feeling crammed in. In these photos, I've styled it with a black blazer (similar here) with the sleeves scrunched up.
When I'm not rocking this as a set, I've also worn these pants to multiple happy hours paired with a simple black crop top. To dress up jammies, a funky heel is a must. I've had this cage-look pair by Steve Madden for a few years now, and I still wear them every chance I get! They've since redone them in a slightly newer version that has more sizes available at the moment, and I think I might have to pick them up when it's time to replace my favorites.
My other sleepwear-inspired favorite is this one-piece jumpsuit I bought recently from H&M. The material is so soft, like a well-worn t-shirt or your coziest sweats, and the ease of slipping it on without worrying about finding a matching top or bottom is ideal. It's definitely not the first thing I reach for when I want to look snatched, but when I just need a throw-on-and-go piece to get me through the day, it's an easy, unique option.
The unique print was part of the recent Anna Glover x H&M collaboration. Also, please don't judge me as I wait one more month to dye my already dramatic roots.
I'm obsessed with the wild floral pattern, as it's not something I'd normally go for, but as a pajama print, it just seems so right. To dress this one up when I leave home for meetings and events, I usually throw on my trusty Gucci belt to cinch and add some definition. I'd really like to find another great statement belt soon, as I've totally over-worn this one, but it's all I've got, and I cinch in just about everything, so excuse the repetition!
I thought I'd also mention some other pajamas that would work well styled out in the real world, including these statement satin pants from Victoria's Secret that I'll be ordering ASAP, this sleep ensemble by Bed to Brunch which looks like a trendy summer two-piece set, and this luxe silk tank top by lingerie brand Simone Perele that I would definitely, definitely wear out at night.
